Tiggly Apps are FREE!
Tiggly Story Maker: Build Words and Record Your Own Tales makes creating three-letter words (with the CVC pattern) fun. Two consonants sit on the bottom of the screen with a space in between them. The five vowels dangle above the space. Kids drop a vowel into the space to see if they can make a word. If a word is made, the animated object appears on the screen. If a word is not made, the vowel springs off the page. Kids can build more than forty CVC words with this app. In the process they will find more than 200 fun interactions such as pigs falling in love and pugs catching a cab. The app is great for reinforcing short vowel sounds and the CVC pattern. It would be a nice addition to a kindergarten or first grade classroom.
Tiggly apps are unique because they can be used with or without Tiggly Word & Shape Toys which are available for purchase within the app. Using Tiggly Words Toys, kids can physically interact with three learning apps for the iPad – Tiggly Submarine, Tiggly Story Maker, and Tiggly Doctor. All three apps are currently FREE.

Animal Pre-K Math & Early Learning Games for Kids in Preschool & Kindergarten Premium
FREE for a limited time – Animal Pre-K Math and Early Learning Games for Kids in Preschool and Kindergarten Premium, a cute educational app for preschoolers. Lily the farmer leads kids through a series of games that teach preschool/K skills: colors, shapes, counting 1 – 10, groups & categories, sequencing & patterns, addition & subtraction. I like that the app teaches shapes in two ways – a circle and a donut, an oval and a watermelon, a rectangle and a bus, etc. And, I was particularly impressed that it names a kite shape as a rhombus. As kids play, they help the cute farm animals (Pinkie the pig, Oliver the horse, Bessie the cow, Cordelia the chicken, Gordon the goat, Sherman the sheep, Webster the duck, Pete the frog) find their way back home. The app is bright, colorful and full of positive encouragement. Nicely done, this app is sure to appeal to little ones.

Toca Robot Lab
FREE for limited time – Toca Robot Lab, another imaginative, educational app from Toca Boca. Kids create robots by mixing & matching scrap parts and pieces of junk. They choose the legs, trunks, heads, and arms for their robots. Three different suggestions are given for each body part – pencils, fans, parts of coffee machines, tape recorders, etc. Once the robot is assembled kids test it in the lab. They drag the robot to make it fly through a maze that has three hidden stars for kids to collect. The goal is to deliver the robot to the big magnet to receive a test report. Then they can start the creating again!
I love the that Toca Boca apps encourage kids to use their imaginations. A parent or teacher can challenge kids to think and talk about what their robots can do based on their parts. They could screen shot the creation of the robot in sequence then pull the pictures into another app for kids to write or talk about. Once he final arm is added, the robot flies into the lab. I wish there was an option to get a picture of the final creation before that happens. It would be fun to have pictures so kids could explain their thinking or compare & contrast their creations. Toca Robot Lab is another fun app from Toca Boca! 🙂

Toca Kitchen
FREE for a limited time – Toca Kitchen, another fun educational app from Toca Boca. Kids take to the kitchen to cook for four lovable characters. In the frig they will find 12 different foods that they can prepare 180 different ways. They can slice, blend, boil, fry, microwave, and/or mix the foods together. They can also add seasoning to the food; but they need to be careful not to add too much. Once the food is prepared they plate it up, serve it to the character, and wait for a reaction. Kids will learn which foods each character prefers in a fun creative way. I love the questions and conversations that Toca Boca apps inspire. It’s no wonder that this app was a Gold Winner of the Parent’s Choice Awards in 2012.
Teachers – use this app to inspire creative writing. Write stories or poems about being a cook and the preferences of your consumers. Or, you could have kids compare and contrast the food preferences of the different characters on a graphic organizer. This app also inspires conversation about healthy eating. There are lots of possibilities for learning while having fun!
