FREE for a limited time – Old MacDonald’s Farm, a learning game for toddlers. Kids spin a wheel of animals looking for the ones that belong on the farm. The usual farm friends are there – cow, horse, pig, etc. But, there are also some animals that do not belong on a farm – octopus, tiger, moose and more! Kids have to decide which of the 22 animals belong on Old MacDonald’s farm. As kids drag and drop puzzle pieces into the farm scene, they are rewarded with animal sounds and cute animations. And they can sing along, of course. 🙂 This SUPER cute version of Old MacDonald is featured in “App Store Essentials – Apps for Toddlers” and was a “What’s Hot” Apple pick. A great educational app for toddlers!

FREE again, Art ABC for the iPhone/iPad. Like all alphabet books, this educational app teaches kids the names & sounds of each letter. What makes it unique is that it also incorporates famous works of art. Each letter of the alphabet is presented on a fine art background. There is also a hidden object (with the featured letter) in the background. Kids explore the page by tapping to reveal each object – each in a different way! The app also contains a list of all the famous art included in the app – titles, artists, nationality, medium used, year, and location of the painting. This app could also be used with older students in art class. Nicely done!!

Kids build 3 interactive puzzles (picnic, jungle animals, dune buggy) that teach vocabulary, colors, shapes, etc. The names of the animals and objects that are pronounced as the child moves each puzzle piece into place. When each puzzle is completed, kids are rewarded with a mini-game! Great fun for little ones.  :)

Wee Sing & Learn ABC

FREE again today (May 8, 2013), Wee Sing & Learn ABC for the iPhone/iPad normally sells for $2.99. Wee Sing has been around for over 30 years. When my children were small, we always had a Wee Sing tape in our car. This app teaches toddlers the alphabet in a musically fun way. Every letter has a page with its own song featuring an animal with an instrument (both beginning with that letter). There are also three additional words for each letter which are pronounced and spelled. The real sound of every animal and each instrument are also included in the app. This app is well done with great attention to detail – a must have for every toddler 🙂

In honor of Autism Month all ABA (applied behavior analysis) apps from Kindergarten.com are FREE for the month of April. These apps can be used by parents, teachers and speech pathologists as part of a speech/language programs. The apps offer a variety of photos set on a white background. The images are selected for their familiarity and appeal to children. The apps include many options – turn the questions on or off, turn the audio on or off, manually flip pages for discussion, a timer, and more. But one of the BEST features of these apps is the data collection – it keeps track of the child’s answers and the percent correct.
